The Redwood Room is named after the Redwood Library,
America's Oldest Len ding Library, located right here in
Newport, RI. George Champlin Mason
was commissioned to design an addition on the library
which currently is the front of this beautiful building.
The library is made of redwood but carved to give the
impression of stonewalls. When the Architect's Inn was
originally constructed, this room would have had a clear
view of the Redwood Library which prominently sits on
the corner of Old Beach Road and the Famous Bellevue
Avenue.
The
Redwood Room was once the master bedroom in the mansion
which
can be seen in the attention to detail to moldings, tile
and intricate floor art. Even the hidden door to the
bathroom is unique for this style house. It is the only
room where returning customers have delayed their trip
in order to wait for a vacancy in this very special
room. The simple loveliness of the white and blue tones
is almost like the beauty in a Roman Classical
sculpture. The Redwood room has no bounds; it is just
beautiful for all to see.
"We felt like princesses sleeping in the bed."
